Status of Foreign Citizens in Serbia During the State of Emergency
To address the status of foreign citizens in the Republic of Serbia during the state of emergency, the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted the Decision on the Status of Foreign Citizens in the Republic of Serbia During the State of Emergency (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia”, No. 41, March 24, 2020).
Key Provisions of the Decision
Lawful Stay During the State of Emergency
Foreign citizens who have been legally residing in Serbia since the declaration of the state of emergency—on any legal grounds—are permitted to lawfully remain in the country for the duration of the state of emergency.No Obligation for Further Status Determination
Foreign nationals are not required to initiate proceedings to further determine their status during this period. This measure simplifies administrative processes for foreign residents.Validity of Expired Identity Cards
- Identity cards issued to foreigners, asylum seekers, or individuals granted asylum that have expired—or will expire—during the state of emergency will be considered valid for the entire duration of the state of emergency.
